How to find inspiration?

Professional artists do not sit at an easel waiting for a muse or inspiration, because they can never wait. You need to set specific goals for yourself. New ideas and unexpected solutions come in the process of work, and achieving the result leads to a strong spiritual uplift.

You can literally write down your ideas, meaning you can create an "idea journal" that will allow you to organize and store all your ideas in one place. Idea journals are perfect for the moments when you have an idea, but you don't have time to work it out and make at least a sketch in a sketchbook.

You can write down ideas by sketching in a sketchbook as soon as you have such a desire or have seen something interesting around, regardless of your location. This will allow you not only to improve your skills but also to immerse yourself in creativity as much as possible. You can set a goal to make sketches in a sketchbook daily or with a certain frequency.

Sooner or later, your sketchbook will be full of great ideas, BUT do not forget to return to your sketches and develop your ideas from the sketchbook. Set aside a certain amount of time (at least 30 minutes a week) to develop ideas from the sketchbook.

Walk in the parks, among the beautiful buildings, go out into nature, there you will find inspiration. It's walking, driving, and traveling that can help you create something new that you haven't done before.

When there are no ideas at all, you can try to repeat yourself. Paint a similar picture, for example, in a different format and on a different size of paper or canvas. Step out of your comfort zone!

If you usually paint in a small format, try paper or larger canvases. This will allow you to think and work differently, to think of a new compositional solution for the work.

Try to buy the materials that you did not have. These can be new brushes or just of better quality, new types of paint or paper.

Try to find something that reveals your creative potential. Everyone has their own way, for someone, it is a walk, for others it is a vacation, reading books, communicating with like-minded people, or collaborating with other artists.

If you can't find the strength to start creating, then switch to a different kind of creativity. Try new ways to create art (watercolor, oil, ink, sculpture, baking, modeling, floristry). This will help you grow as an artist and maybe you will find another passion for yourself and get a new push.

If painting is not your profession, then you probably face the problem of not having enough time for it. In this case, planning is important. Select time for creativity in your calendar: plan courses and masterclasses, time for independent and free creativity.

Visit exhibitions (now many exhibitions are available online, for example, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (USA), the British Tate Gallery (UK), the Louvre (France), the Uffizi Gallery (Italy), the Belvedere Gallery (Austria), the Van Gogh Museum (Netherlands), etc.), look at the works of old masters, study the works, techniques, and techniques of artists who especially inspire you.

If you don't have a portfolio, start working on it. You can make a "real" (paper) portfolio, or create a portfolio on a website. Now everyone can create their own website, there are many free website builders (Wix, Wordpress, Tilda, Taplink, and others) that do not require programming skills.

A portfolio is created not only by professional artists, it is a great way to collect in one place all that you are working on, to show your family, friends, colleagues.

Every artist needs a little help. There is a book "Steal like an Artist" by Austin Cleon, in which he writes that all the ideas have already been invented by someone, and your task is to accumulate all of them and choose something of your own from this pile. Now there are many resources that can give you a creative boost. Here are some of them:
