Over 5 inspiring days, you'll paint stunning locations — the Lagoon of Seven Colors, Pirate's Channel, Fuerte de San Felipe, Los Rapidos, and the Kohunlich ruins. Terrilynn will guide you through every session, sharing techniques to bring atmosphere, light, and emotion into your work, with personalized feedback throughout the week.

The program of our workshop
Spend 6 days and 5 nights in the Lagoon of Seven Colors, Bacalar, Mexico and develop your painting skills and artistic view under the guidance of a seasoned instructor with 35 years of teaching experience, artist Terrilynn Dubreuil
Day 1, December 1st
Arrival
- Arrival to Bacalar, Mexico
- Individual or group transfers from the airport to the hotel
- Welcome dinner with Terrilynn and plein air workshop participants
- Meet the group, introductions, and outline of the week ahead
Day 2, December 2nd
Foundation and Composition
- Preparatory meeting with the artist in the hotel — introduction to the workshop, overview of key concepts
- Painting session 1: Cabins in the hotel setting — focus on composition, value, and best use of photos and sketches
- Travel to the town of Bacalar
- Painting session 2: Simplified town scene with a close-up detail — implement morning practices to plan a painting
- Feedback session on participants’ paintings from Terrilynn
Day 3, December 3rd
Water and Light
- Travel to Los Rapidos
- Sketching session: Water surface, brushwork, and colour — capturing the movement and reflections of the lagoon
- Travel to Las Cocalitos
- Painting session: Water depths and layers — employ concepts from earlier sessions to create a painting
- Feedback session on participants’ paintings from Terrilynn
Day 4, December 4th
Structure and Scale
- Travel to the Kohunlich Pyramids
- Painting session 1: Simplifying the structure of the pyramid — review and implement all concepts to build a strong painting
- Painting session 2: A close-up detail of the site
- Free time to catch up on paintings or continue working on location
- Feedback session on participants’ paintings from Terrilynn
Day 5, December 5th
Colour and Celebration
- Boat trip on the Lagoon of Seven Colors — sketching, swimming, sightseeing, and relaxing on the famous Channel of the Pirates
- Travel to Fuerte de San Felipe in Bacalar town
- Painting session: The fort — overall view and a detail. Review the process, adjust weak points, and complete a larger painting (9×12″ minimum)
- Feedback session with Terrilynn and mini exhibition — bring your paintings and choose a favourite
- Certificate ceremony for workshop participants
- Farewell dinner with Terrilynn and plein air workshop participants
Day 6, December 6th
Departure
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Departure from Bacalar

During the workshop, you will be staying at the beautiful Kaaj Ndomi in Bacalar.
This unique property offers a tranquil retreat with an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center, a garden, and a private beach area

- With a Fine Arts degree, Terrilynn Dubreuil has studied in wide-ranging situations to expand personal knowledge and creative resources
- She has been teaching various media and techniques of art to people of all ages for 35 years, both in-person and virtually
- Terrilynn is a juried Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA), Signature member of Pastel Society of Maine, Master Pastellist with the International Association of Pastel Societies
- She’s been exhibiting and selling artwork in diverse venues, receiving recognition at many juried international shows and getting awards
- In 2023 she was awarded the First Place in the IAPS Exhibit and in 2024 – 8th place in the SOCIÉTÉ DES PASTELLISTES DE FRANCE 40th Anniversary International Pastel Contest, 23rd Feytiat International Pastel Show (France)

The return policy
- Cancellations must be submitted in writing via email.
- More than 3 months before the event: refund minus a non-refundable 100 USD/EUR deposit.
- From 3 months up to and including 2 months before the event: 50% refund of the total event price.
- Less than 2 months before the event: no monetary refund; a 50% credit of the total event price may be issued for online courses or future plein air workshop events
- Personal travel insurance is strongly recommended to cover the possibility of unexpected or last-minute cancellation.
- If Artefacto cancels the trip, you get a full refund or can transfer your payment to another Artefacto workshop.
- In case of discrepancies, the English version of the policy shall prevail.
