Most artists learn oils from finished videos. You see the result, never the decisions behind it. Ivan paints a full portrait sketch live and talks through every choice as it happens.
A trained oil painter makes a dozen decisions before the second brushstroke. You will hear each one out loud.
As the portrait takes shape in real time, you will see how to:
Capture the character of a model in a quick sketch, without overworking the details
Find color harmony and build a unified color system across the whole portrait
Use varied techniques to add depth, texture, and painterly quality
Handle light and shadow to create volume, space, and mood
Does this sound like you?
You want to try oils, and watching someone paint live feels like the right first step
You have seen finished paintings and edited tutorials, but never the full process in real time. In this session you watch every decision as it happens, so oils stop feeling like a guess.
Your portraits come out flat
The proportions are fine, the colors are close, but the face has no presence. You will see how an artist brings character into a portrait inside a single live session, and what to change in your own work.
You paint in watercolor or another medium and want to understand how oils behave
You know how to paint, but oil has its own logic. You will see how a trained oil painter thinks before you commit to a full oil course, so the switch feels less intimidating.
You already paint portraits and want to watch a classically trained artist work
You can get a portrait done, but you sense a level of understanding you are missing. You will hear what a Repin Academy graduate sees that you do not.
Your workshop with Ivan Loginov
Ivan paints a quick, expressive oil portrait from photograph to finished piece in a single live session, explaining every decision along the way.
The drawing is ready before you join, so the whole session focuses on painting: color mixing, building form with light and shadow, balancing detail and expression, and knowing when the portrait is done. You watch the full process and hear every choice as he makes it.
For educational purposes, a slightly blurred reference is perfectly acceptable.
Ivan Loginov
Many Artefacto instructors, working artists themselves, study portrait painting with Ivan.
- ◆ Graduate of the Repin Academy of Fine Arts, working in the classical academic tradition you see in museum collections
- ◆ Teaches the teachers: many Artefacto instructors study portraits with him
- ◆ Explains complex academic concepts in plain language
- ◆ His work was followed by a documentary crew for the film "Monologue"
Ivan teaches you not to copy, but to understand painting from the inside.
I do not want you to memorize my brushstrokes. I want you to understand why each one goes where it goes. Once you see that, you can paint anything
