How do you decide where to put color and tone, and which shapes stay positive and which become negative,
when you paint an abstract from a photo?
This workshop answers it on one landscape reference, in real time

Your workshop with Sterling Edwards

Day 1
Thursday, October 29

Marker sketch, shapes, color and tone, full landscape. Each principle is shown and explained on one reference, in the order Sterling works

1. Sterling presents the reference and makes a quick marker sketch. He shows how he will change the scene: which shape leads, what he simplifies, where color and depth depart from the photo
2. He paints the whole landscape in watercolor and stops at the moments where decisions happen
3. Sterling answers your questions at the end
