With this course, you will gain one of the greatest skills artists can possess – an ability to feel the subjects and convey hidden meanings, showing the very essence, the soul of the thing or place.
Together with David Poxon, you will paint a series of 3 subjects connected by location and learn to show the very DNA of the place and its past inhabitants. With careful step by step instruction we will aim to produce the drama, emotion, and feelings of those people on paper.
By really concentrating on the place, you will take your artwork to another level, because you won’t be just looking – you will be seeing, feeling the moment, and enjoying every minute of the painting process!

Lesson 1:
Cottage on the Hill
In this lesson, you will learn how to paint a textured surface, such as a wall, by using splattering and wet-on-wet techniques. You will see how to make a good composition, as well as capture the cast shadows and sunlight on windows and a wall, while maintaining a balance between abstraction and realism.

Lesson 2: Blue for You
In this lesson, you will learn how to create the rich textures of weathered surfaces, such as rusted metal and aged wood, using layering and splattering techniques. The focus will be on capturing the interplay of colors and textures, evoking a sense of time and decay. You will also explore how to depict details like locks and hinges realistically while maintaining an expressive, loose style.

Lesson 3: Sail Away
In this lesson, you'll see how to paint a picture within a picture, learn how to capture the serene beauty of boats and reflections on water through the use of soft washes and wet into wet technique, and make texture contrasts of a painting and a wall being reclaimed by nature. The lesson also covers the importance of color harmony and layering to evoke mood and a sense of place.
