Lotus is the most mentioned plant in Indian literature, in China it is known as the paradise bud. For many peoples, the lotus flower is still associated with righteous souls, kindness of heart, and purity of mind.
In this course, you will learn how to convey the beauty and elegance of lotus flowers using the wet-on-wet technique.
You will also master different approaches to stylizing lotuses, for example, collage painting.
The course consists of 4 painting lessons:
In the first 2 lessons, we will focus on painting lotus flowers in the wet-on-wet technique. We will see how to use the elements of lines, dots, and surface in the composition of lotus painting.
In the 3 and 4 lessons, you will learn the collage technique and master the nuances of brushwork for creating an abstract, dynamic image of a flower.

Get more understanding of color mixing, paint tender lotus flowers, and create a green background emphasizing the petals and making lovely contrasts.

Pink and Emerald. Pencil part.
Make a pencil drawing for the future painting.

Pink and Emerald. Exercise.
Study shapes and structure of the flower, see why it is important and how it will help in working on the future painting.
Lesson 7

Paint a bright lotus flower and complete the artwork with a rich background, using the splashing technique.

Do an exercise on mixing colors, which will help you better understand the theory of color, and learn how you can use tissues to create textures.

Paint a lotus flower using an unusual collage technique, mixing beautiful green pigments, and applying tissues to give texture to the artwork.

Make a pencil drawing for the future painting.

Do an exercise, practicing various techniques, learn how to create a dense and light layer of watercolor, and see why it is important in a painting.

Learn to control water and pigment, see how to achieve the desired saturation of colors, improve your brushwork, and make the background in a new color scheme.

Do a creative task using the techniques and knowledge acquired.

Jayson Yeoh
Author of the course
А self-taught watercolor artist born in Malaysia.
His artworks have been selected for exhibitions in both local and international shows. Some of his artworks also won several awards of International watercolor competitions.
Many of his works were also published in Watercolor Artist Magazine, English/French version.
Mr Jayson is regularly invited to the panel of judges for various international watercolor competitions. He is also invited as the curator of ‘Today Silk Road Special Exhibition of International Art Works’ and instructor of offline and online workshops.
He is currently a member of The Malaysia Watercolour Society, Singapore Watercolour Society and the Penang Watercolour Society, and has recently been awarded the Signature status of National Watercolour Society, USA and American Watercolor Society, USA.
