When artists attempt drawing architecture, it gets much easier if they know the rules of how objects are viewed in perspective.

When we know that a circle becomes an ellipse and the sides of a rectangle look different when we see it from an angle, it makes the whole process clearer.

Perspective gives you exact knowledge of how objects change in distance, how to show that one object is further and another is closer to the viewer, and how to draw and paint an object from the artist’s point of view so that the image tells the visual story without deformation or misinterpretation.

This course includes 20 recorded lessons of 5,5h and combines the fundamental knowledge around both, Drawing and Painting. You will create 6 final Paintings and do 12 exercises and sketches to acquire all the fundamental knowledge you need to make your paintings look deeper and more appealing to the viewer.

Lesson 1

Introduction

Organizational information, how to use the platform. The list of materials needed for the course.

Lesson 2

Frontal 1 vanishing point perspective

We will study in detail such concepts as perspective changes of simple shapes,
illusion of distance with similar size objects, vanishing point, and converging lines.

Lesson 3

Exercise to the lesson “Palms on a beach”

We will make a drawing for the future landscape, exploring its structure.

Lesson 4

Palms on a beach

We will see how to create an illusion of distance with similar size objects, make a vanishing point, work with converging lines
and depict sky/ground relationships.

Lesson 5

1 vanishing point frontal perspective

We will study converging lines of the cube in perspective and see how to draw a cube from different points of view in frontal perspective.

Lesson 6

1 vanishing point frontal perspective and distance

We will learn how to draw objects of similar height (people, trees) in various distance and how to build rectangular objects in frontal perspective.

Lesson 7

Exercise to the lesson “Afternoon in Shanghai”

We will make a drawing for the future cityscape, exploring its structure.

Lesson 8

Afternoon in Shanghai

We will make a painting, working with 1 point perspective, aerial perspective, and unification of details.

Lesson 9

A circle in frontal perspective

We will explore changes that happen to a circle when we see it at an angle in frontal perspective.

Lesson 10

Ellipse - a circle in perspective.

We will see changes of a circle from different points of view and get some examples of circles in perspective.

Lesson 11

Exercise to the lesson “Ancient theater”

We will make a drawing for a future watercolor and get an explanation of ellipse perspective in this particular case.

Lessson 12

Ancient theater (Limyra, Antalya)

We will paint ellipse in perspective, see how to convey textures of ancient ruins, and learn to paint details without definition.

Lesson 13

2 vanishing points perspective

We will see how to build a cube in angular perspective, explore a view from above and from below, and see the examples of building simple objects in angular perspective.

Lesson 14

Italian bridge

We will see how to convey 2 points strong perspective, show contrast, and paint different textures.

Lesson 15

3 vanishing points perspective

We will get an explanation of a situation when we see a tall architectural object from a low point of view at an angle.

Lesson 16

Exercise to the lesson “London Bridge”

We will explore 3 points angular perspective.

Lesson 17

London Bridge

We will practice conveying 3 points perspective, aerial perspective, and angular perspective, see how to easily depict reflections, and learn to omit extra details.

Lesson 18

Reflection, axes of reflection

We will get a simplified explanation of building a reflection in angular perspective.

Lesson 19

Rainy day in London

We will see how to paint a partial reflection, depict ellipses in reflection, paint wet road with pedestrians, and convey a rainy mood.

Lesson 20

Conclusion

Creative task. Under Konstantin's guidance, you will complete a creative task that will help you work independently. Summing up and getting feedback.
