«Mastering realism sharpens our observation, enriches our artistic expression, and connects viewers to our vision on a deeper level.»
Artefacto students
In this course, you will dive deep into the art of portrait painting, learning to capture the human face with precision, emotion, and individuality. From sketching expressive eyes to mastering the delicate nuances of skin tones and facial structure, this course offers a comprehensive journey through the essential skills of portraiture.
Under the expert guidance of Anna Ivanova, you’ll begin by learning how to draw facial features – including eyes, noses, and mouths – from multiple angles, laying the groundwork for lifelike and expressive portraits.
During the course, you’ll create a series of 4 vibrant and diverse portraits: a young girl with delicate features and glowing skin, a woman with long ginger curls, a smiling lady with a rich dark complexion, and a graceful woman in a hat. Anna will walk you through every step – from mixing skin tones and building form with light and shadow, to capturing unique facial expressions and avoiding common mistakes like overworking.
This course will suit both beginner and experienced watercolor artists who want to:
- Develop their portrait painting skills, learning how to make right proportions and symmetry of the face
- Improve their technique, painting different skin tones, creating luminous effects, and maintaining color harmony
- Learn to convey realistic emotions and facial expressions, getting resemblance and showing the individuality of the model
- Make their portraits look volumetric and explore a variety of watercolor portrait painting methods.
