Sketching is a fabulous art direction! To develop creativity and imagination, to find your personal style, to master tricky nuances of composition, color work, and design effortlessly – there is so much we can achieve with its help!
At this course, we will learn to find inspiration in simple scenes, study the main painting techniques, and collect our happy memories in a sketchbook. We will know how to lay out a page, stylize various subjects, and add personal touches to every scene we depict.

An introduction to our learning platform and an overview of the materials used in this course.
Lesson 2
Sketching in Provence,
France. Pencil part + ink
We will make a drawing for the future sketch with pencil and ink pen.
Lesson 3
Sketching in Provence,
France. Watercolor part
We will make a page layout, learn how to measure angles, paint wet-on-wet, and use more ink to decorate our images.
Lesson 4
Sketching the Italian
Riviera. Pencil part + ink
We will make a drawing for the future sketch with pencil and ink pen.
Lesson 5
Sketching the Italian
Riviera. Watercolor part
We will use tape to define edges, simplify the sea, and apply negative space to frame our images.
Lesson 6
Sketching in Laos. Pencil part + ink
We will make a drawing for the future sketch with pencil and ink pen and paint the houses with watercolor.
Lesson 7
Sketching in Laos.
Watercolor part
We will continue with the rest of the images, convey the atmosphere of the place, learn to build a composition organically and adapt script to location.
Lesson 8
Sketching in Morocco.
Pencil part + ink
We will make a drawing for the future sketch with pencil and ink pen.
Lesson 9
Sketching in Morocco.
Watercolor part
We will simplify details, see how to create beautiful leaves with watercolor, and use architectural elements to frame vignettes.

Conclusion
A summary of all techniques from the instructor.

Meet your instructor
Susan Knapp
- A sketchbook artist, professional illustrator, and online sketching teacher.
- Susan has sketched and painted all her life, from her first career as a designer of clothing and textiles, to painting murals in grand houses, then to illustrating books and postcards.
- She also creates illustrations for the leading tourist offices in Provence.
- In 2019, Susan joined "Urban Sketchers", a global community of artists that practice drawing on location in cities, towns and villages they live in or travel to.
- Susan’s illustrations were featured in a “Pratique des Arts” magazine – one of the most famous art magazines in France and in the whole world.
- Her travel paintings were exhibited in “Carré d’artistes” – 1st network of contemporary art galleries in the world.
