“If you want to paint beautiful flowers, do not copy the photo, but compose the composition yourself. This way you will get much more interesting and harmonious color combinations. 

I often build compositions in Photoshop – rotate something, zoom in, zoom out, expand. 

You can combine several different photos – somewhere the shadow falls beautifully, somewhere the flower turned out well”.


In this lesson, you will:

  • learn to create a complex composition with only 1 or 2 flowers,
  • see how to choose reference photos for painting flowers,
  • get useful advice on how to change references from the Internet for avoiding copyright issues.

Which materials do you need for the course?


  • Paints - any high-quality artistic paints in cuvettes or tubes (e.g. Daniel Smith, Sennelier, Winsor&Newton, Schmincke, White nights etc.)
  • Brushes: Natural round and synthetic brushes with a beveled tip, flutes
  • Watercolor Paper 100% cotton 300 gsm
  • A board and a tape to fix the paper
  • Pencil, eraser
